Hi,
I have been trying to track down the parentage of a zygo I have and have hit
a hurdle and was wondering if anyone could help, if anyone knows the parents
of Zygo. Warringal Wonder, and can tell me then I would be grateful.
Thanks Nat
P.S. Tricia thanks for the details on attendees of the show.

Could it possibly be Z. John Banks x crinitum? I could not verify it.

Thanks to all who answered, weird how I spent an hour on the web looking
last night and got know where, is there a source of orchid genealogy that I
can reference, as I now would like to find the parentage of Zygosepalum
labiosum, the only thing I can find on the web is the pervious names, and
searching under each of the different names yields no future clue to the
parentage.
Isn't it eerie and quiet with out Geoff & Roger? I would of sent a photo of
my Louisendorf but my seven month old pulled it over and three of the
flowers fell of and the remaining two were broken, so instead is anyone any
good at identifying zygo hybrids, as I think there is a bit of Maxillare
and Intermedium, but not sure of anything else.

I find the best source is the Orchid Wiz Encyclopedia DVD that you can buy from the US.
It can also be called rostratum.

Hi Nathaniel,
Whenever I want to find out an orchid's parentage I use the international orchid register run by Kew. You can actually use it on the net quite easily. One problem though, is if you have an old name for your orchids (let's say LC that has been reclassified as something else), it can sometimes hit a wall, but other than that, you can search going back up until you get to the original species used!
Hope this helps,
Francis

Dear All,
Please find accompanying some photos I took recently of the first flowering of my Pleuro.Teagueii which is one of the larger flowering species in the genus. Each of the flowers measures 2.5cms across which is comparable to a plant I saw flowering in the wild in Ecuador. I grow it with a night time minimum temp. of 16.5C.
Regards from a dryer Devon.

Bill, That is skilled growing. The group should realise that the leaf is about 12 ins (30 cm.) long and you are possibly the first to flower it in the UK. I hope you will brtng it for the table on Sunday.

Hello Gordon,
I have managed to pollinate four seed pods. How do I know when they are
ready for removal from the plant? Presumably when they start to split,
or are they better as green pod. Any ideas please.
David.

Hi Bill,
That is really a stunning plant!
I have got a Pleuro titan and a Pleuro cordata (but might be marthae), which I believe belong to the same group? However, mine do not grow very well, let alone even flower!
They are in pure moss, and although they have grown a few leaves, they are smaller than the previous ones, and some growths don't even make it through more than an inch before dying... what advice do you have for better culture of these plants?

Hi David,
Congratulations. I would say that as the pods turn from green to yellow and change from hard to pliable when subject to a gentle squeeze then you can safely harvest them. I can clean and dry the pods when I get them before extracting the seed.
If you have the names I can find out roughly how long they take to mature.
Regards,
Gordon.#

Hello Gordon,
They are Phalaenopsis appendiculata, and I pollinated them on 10th August. I am surprised just how big they are getting.
