To succeed in politics, it is often necessary to rise above your principles.

Very useful , thanks Tricia , it shall be printed and displayed on my notice
board as soon as my printer finishes its present workload.

Quite a difference from what it seems BOC may have.

This information is incorrect. Attached is the list of the 22 traders who
are attending at Weston , half of which are foreign nurseries.

Hi Dennis!
Latest info. I have is that expected attendance at Weston Congress will be :-
Society Stands 22
Trade Stands 21 of these 10 from UK and 11 Foreign.

There should be plenty of interest for any amateur grower.Could you communicate this to the Orchid Talk group as I have yet to discover how to deliver a message to them.
Best Regards Bill

Hi Silvio,

You asked me if the rock chippings had to be permeable. The answer is NO. The surface may hold some moisture for a while, but my main aim is to provide an anchorage for the roots. Also, air should be able to get between the rocks.

I will send you some photos, possibly tomorrow.

Kind regards, Rocky.

Hi all,

I am very pleased with my plant of BLC. Hawaiian Leopard which I purchased on the seventeenth of January this year from Ratcliffe Orchids.

It sure has grown well, and I must admit that I did not expect to see so many flowers.

As per usual, being a hybrid, the leaves per bulb do differ from year to year.

Just a thought.............why does CITES need to be involved with such a plant as this.......a three species cross???

Oh yes, nearly forgot, it has a very slight fragrance, which I hope may get better in a few days.

Rocky.

Not sure about free time, as I am asked to help on the stand of Growth
Technology − although the details have not yet been settled.

Because the list of nurseries was sent to me by Janet Plested − Plested Orchids was omitted from the list. So please note that Plested Orchids will also be attending.

Hi Bill!

I bought a couple of sacks of pumice in ½ inch pieces because of a vague
feeling that pumice, being volcanic, must be good for plants. What do you
recommend that I do with it?

You could, of course, use G Mail. I already have it as a backup − just in
case....

They have not − it seems − signed up to the Industry Code of Practice, so
they cannot (usefully) be reported to Ofcom for their bad practices.

Hi Ron,

Now then my old friend, please don't set yourself up for some naughty humorous answers to your request........

I bought a couple of sacks of pumice in ½ inch pieces because of a vague feeling that pumice, being volcanic, must be good for plants. What do you recommend that I do with it?

To be quite down to earth my good friend, I will never know why people seem to think that whatever they are intending to use as a medium for their orchids, that it MUST retain moisture. It sure don't need to. So, why not use it, as I do in a hanging basket in which I keep my only Stanhopea...........it's been in the same medium and basket for the last twelve years, and of coarse it will stay there for many more years.

Rocky.

Ron, when Bill and I were in Ecuador we noticed that all the orchids were grown in Moss and Pumice. It was also noticable that all theoretical epiphytic and lithophyytic orchids growing on the ground in the wild grew in moss and crushed rock pumice.
Earlier when I previously ran out of perlite I had repotted in mossand pumice and those orchids were romping ahead of the others.
If you recall a way back I asked for a pumice supplier and Bill found one.
We are now going to transfer a lot of our orchids to this mix.
We could go wrong but we could be right.
Regards from Devon
PS We will both be at BOGA on Saturday picking up our Orchids chosen in Ecuador during our visit
